On Sunday, July 27, 2025, ASEZ WAO volunteers gathered to clean up Leif Ericson and McKinley Parks in Brooklyn, NY. These two popular parks serve as community spaces where many families gather to relax and spend time together. In total, the volunteers removed more than 745 pounds of trash and debris from both parks. In a borough known for heavy foot traffic and pollution, the cleanup brightened the environment for the neighborhood.

Uniting for a Cleaner Brooklyn
The event focused on environmental restoration and was organized with the support of local leaders. New York State Assemblyman Lester Chang, who represents South Brooklyn’s 49th District, worked closely with ASEZ WAO. Together, they coordinated the cleanup. His office also honored ASEZ WAO with a New York State Assembly Citation. The award recognized their dedication to public service and environmental care. Furthermore, New York State Senator Stephen Chan also supported the initiative. He recognized the importance of community efforts to preserve natural spaces across Brooklyn.

Britney Quezada, an ASEZ WAO volunteer, explained, “The cleanups were a part of our Green Earth Initiative which strives to save our ecosystems. We want to bring awareness to the importance of taking care of the environment, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and reducing plastics.”
