The Meaning and the Importance of Baptism
Baptism symbolizes God’s gift of the forgiveness of our sins (Ac 2:38). It’s the first step as we begin our life of faith and our pledge to God to live a new life. Even Jesus Christ set an example of being baptized before He started His ministry.
“Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, ‘I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?’ Jesus replied, ‘Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.’ Then John consented.”
Jesus’ example shows us that baptism is an important ceremony that leads all people to salvation. Eternal life is something that everyone needs. So, Jesus told us to go and baptize all nations so that they can become Christ’s disciples.
“‘Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”
According to the words of Christ, baptism is an important step for us to take as Christians. After baptism, we can gradually begin to learn all of God’s teachings through the Bible. Then, we can begin observing them, including the Passover, the Sabbath day, and the feasts of God. Also, God promises us the gift of the Holy Spirit to help us realize all the truth of the Bible and live according to God’s will.
