On Thursday, April 17, 2025, more than 50 passionate middle and high school students held an Earth Day cleanup in Newburgh. Wearing gloves and carrying garbage bags, the volunteers hit the streets ready to make a difference.
Volunteers traveled from across New York, New Jersey, and even the Dominican Republic to participate in the cleanup. Their goal was to protect the Earth by uniting students for meaningful environmental efforts. “We’re united by our love for God and our neighbors,” said one ASEZ STAR student. “That’s what drives us.” Together, the students picked up litter, beautified public spaces, and encouraged one another to live sustainably every day.

ASEZ STAR Recognized for Their Earth Day Cleanup Efforts
The City of Newburgh’s Department of Public Works partnered with the students for the cleanup. Local leaders came out to support the cause, including Mayor Torrance Harvey, Senator Rob Rolison, Councilman Brandon Calore, and Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson. Town of Woodbury Councilman Brandon Calore also presented ASEZ STAR with a Certificate of Achievement in honor of their Earth Day efforts.
Assemblyman Jacobson applauded the students, saying, “It’s not enough to know the Bible. Putting it into practice is what matters—and that’s exactly what you’re doing here today.”
Assemblyman Chris Eachus added, “Our generation made many mistakes with the environment, but we rely on you to help make things right. We’re grateful for your support.”
One student summed up the spirit of the day best: “Even small actions to protect the environment help improve ourselves and those around us. That’s the purpose of the Green School Campaign.”
From one street in Newburgh to cities around the world, ASEZ STAR will continue to strive to make a positive impact. To see more events from Church of God volunteers, visit our Activities page!
