Over 40 student volunteers from colleges across New York City came together at Lehman College. They partnered with the Office of Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie for a graffiti removal and community cleanup in the Bronx.

The event was part of ASEZ’s global Crime Prevention Campaign inspired by the principle of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. CPTED a simple but powerful idea that a well-kept community helps deter crime. By transforming neglected spaces into bright, clean ones, ASEZ volunteers hope to inspire others to take pride in their surroundings and do their part to keep their neighborhoods beautiful.

Volunteers worked in teams to remove graffiti and clean surrounding areas. They painted walls, cleared trash, and transformed neglected spaces into clean, inviting ones. By taking action, ASEZ hoped to inspire others to care for their neighborhoods. Throughout the cleanup, locals passing through thanked students and praised the effort. Some residents even joined in by removing trash from nearby streets.
The cleanup left a strong impression on everyone who joined. “It’s always rewarding to help the community in any way possible,” said Aurora Whyte, a dedicated ASEZ volunteer. “Cleaning off the graffiti and repainting the walls was a great experience. ASEZ always thinks about the best interests of others.”
